I consider myself a fine art documentary photographer. For me, photography is ultimately about people. Sometimes I photograph stories drawn from my own experiences; at other times, I explore my dreams and imagination.

On this site, I have collected photographs from my local area that reflect childhood dreams—cowboys, airborne testing, and life along the Ohio River. My travels have taken me on road trips, flights, and countless journeys by water. Most importantly, they have taught me about kindness, our shared humanity, and the beauty of our differences.

Essays, Portfolios and Books

Is a photo essay a short story, a chapter, or a novel? I try to avoid the typical “travel log” approach, choosing instead to seek meaning, interest, and enjoyment. At their core, these images express my own thoughts and feelings.

Bricks for our Homes and Cities. As children, we’re often taught that brick homes are the best. So why doesn’t everyone live in one? Brick homes demand a great deal of work at every stage, but making the bricks themselves may be the hardest part. The work is hot, dirty, and dangerous. In some places, bricks are still made without machines, much as they have been for centuries.

Travels. I’ve been to many places, but still not enough. My method is trains, plans and automobiles. Well, actually its a travel van outfitted for photography. It’s been on the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf, Canada and made it as far as the Rocky Mountains. My favorite spots are Churches, National Parks and Monuments. I’ve photographed American Tragedies at Wounded Knee, Flight 93 and Newton.

How We Fit Together. People come in all shapes and sizes, and so do relationships. Some relationships seem seamless, while others appear to have deep fractures. Some have endured for many years; others are just beginning. Regardless, we are all different, and we fit together in different ways.

The Kitchen Is More Than a Coffee Table Book. We love books for many reasons. They introduce us to characters and plots, transport usinto fantasy, and invite us to see the world through someone else’s eyes. But what I lovemost are the stories. I believe picture books can have a similar impact. Each image can tella story, while the collection of images can create a larger, more meaningful one. Perhapsthe greatest advantage of a picture book is that it speaks visually and can transcendlanguage.

Huffman Flying Field at Simms Station. At the end of the main runway of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, lies an expanse of tall grass known as Huffman Flying Field. Today, it is part of the U.S. National Park System, where visitors come to hike, observe birds, enjoy wildflowers, and experience the landscape.

Saturday Night Rodeo. Local outdoor rodeos are one of the best venues available for photographic images. They are usually held between golden hour, blue hour, and twilight, creating wonderful light and atmosphere. They’re festive events filled with people, animals, and structures. Essentially, there is something for everyone to photograph.

Fine Art Prints

I love making fine art prints. Most of mine are handcrafted using platinum/palladium emulsions and produced in my modern darkroom, where I have refined and optimized this 19th-century printing process.

Many people value platinum prints for their exceptional archival permanence, making them among the longest-lasting photographic print media. My own preference, however, comes from their warm, delicate tonal qualities. They create a quiet sense of warmth and comfort that complements the spaces in which they are displayed.

Most of my prints measure 8 x 10 inches, while my larger gallery prints are produced in sizes up to 20 x 24 inches.
